Caroo expands to Thessaloniki and Crete, paving the way for international expansion

The Greek car-sharing start-up has secured a second funding round backed by Loggerhead Ventures, Anthology Ventures, Starttech Ventures and HeBAN, further strengthening its growth trajectory.

Thessaloniki, 3 December 2025

Caroo, the first free-floating car-sharing company in Greece, has secured a second funding round of €600,000, marking a new milestone in its mission to deliver flexible urban mobility — from a few minutes to a full day — by leveraging the seasonally idle fleets of rental car companies.

According to Christos Chiletis, Founder and CEO of Caroo, “This new funding round will enable us to further strengthen our fleet in Athens — which we are constantly enriching with eco-friendly vehicles — and to launch our operations in Thessaloniki by the end of the year, followed by Crete. Our goal is to expand to international cities within 2026. Car sharing in Greece is becoming a necessary solution to the growing challenges of urban mobility and can work in complementarity with existing transport modes, supporting the transition toward a sustainable and smart mobility system.”

Car sharing is emerging as a multidimensional tool for urban regeneration, helping reduce the environmental burden caused by car dependency, easing traffic congestion, and freeing up valuable public space that can be reclaimed for sustainable city redesign.

In just its first year of operation, Caroo has recorded over 40,000 users and 34,000 completed rentals, with each vehicle serving 3–6 different users per day and replacing up to 8 private cars that would otherwise be on the road. The result: more than 40 tons of CO₂ saved in a single year — the equivalent of 40 Paris–New York flights.

Beyond its environmental impact, Caroo promotes equal access to mobility, offering flexible and affordable transportation that removes barriers to work, education, and social participation. As Christos Chiletis adds, “What is particularly important for us is that Caroo provides a safe mobility option, especially during hours or circumstances when safety is a concern — such as at night. According to our survey, 40% of female users who use the service after midnight choose it specifically for safety reasons.”

From his side, Evangelos Kosmidis, CEO & General Partner at Loggerhead Ventures Fund, noted: “As a climate-tech venture capital firm based in Thessaloniki, we invest in technologies that create tangible environmental and social impact. Caroo’s expansion to the city marks an important step toward more efficient and sustainable urban mobility, complementing both public and private transport options. Over the past year, Caroo has proven the strength and maturity of its business model — achieving solid growth, validating its product, and demonstrating real potential to scale internationally. At Loggerhead Ventures, we actively support Caroo’s next phase of expansion and internationalization, as it stands out as a leading example of Greek innovation combining technological excellence, measurable impact, and entrepreneurial focus.”

Mr Argyrios Spyridis, CEO of Anthology Ventures, highlighted that: “Caroo is a prime example where the Business Model plays a primary role and technology isn’t trying to discover a problem, but rather to offer a substantial, no-frills solution. In the Anthology Ventures studio, we recognized and worked alongside a functional and complementary team of founders who are constantly evolving and working tirelessly on a modern solution that doesn’t shy away from technological advancement. This combination makes us believe in Caroo’s future and the potential for a successful trajectory. With Caroo, the limits of Car-Sharing as we knew it are being surpassed, as the company offers valuable services to both its users and its partners/suppliers.”

Ms Iro Tsakiri, Managing Director of Starttech Ventures, noted: “Starttech Ventures sees Caroo as a strong example of how technology, responsible mobility, and sharp execution can converge into a scalable business with real impact. The company has already demonstrated meaningful traction and a clear ability to turn urban mobility challenges into a viable, growing service. This new funding round marks an important step in strengthening its presence in Greece while laying the foundations for international expansion. We believe in and support Caroo because its product, vision, data driven approach, and the dedication of its team position it to become a reference point for flexible and sustainable mobility internationally.”

Mr. Panayotis Ketikidis, the Chairperson of HeBAN, noted: “As the Hellenic Business Angels Network (HeBAN), we see Caroo emerging as a leading example of how Greek innovation can scale with clarity, discipline and strong market traction. The company’s record performance and the rapid progress of Caroo-as-a-Service demonstrate a solid and highly scalable model with international potential. Most importantly, these milestones reflect the dedication, professionalism and capability of the Caroo team. As HeBAN, we actively support Caroo’s next phase of expansion and international scale-up.”
