Perceptual Robotics raises funding to automate wind turbine maintenance

Backed by Loggerhead Ventures, with follow-on investment from One Planet Capital, the company uses AI and autonomous drones to improve wind farm efficiency

Perceptual Robotics has secured funding with participation from Loggerhead Ventures and follow-on investment from One Planet Capital, as wind turbine maintenance becomes an increasingly critical factor in the cost and reliability of wind energy. In an industry where minor defects can escalate into costs worth hundreds of thousands of euros, many issues still go undetected, directly impacting infrastructure performance.

Perceptual Robotics uses autonomous drones and artificial intelligence to automate wind turbine inspections, transforming a time-consuming and high-risk process into a faster and more reliable way to make maintenance decisions. Its platform captures high-resolution data, detects and classifies damage, and delivers comprehensive reports within 48 hours. It also provides tools for repair prioritization and cost estimation, enabling wind farm operators to act earlier and more effectively. The company’s technology has already been deployed at scale, with thousands of wind turbine inspections and more than 1 million images processed by its AI.

A significant share of damage still goes undetected or is incorrectly assessed in traditional inspections, while 65% of repairs are unplanned due to infrequent and costly inspection cycles. At the same time, minor defects costing around €5,000 can escalate into repair costs exceeding €500,000, placing a significant burden on operations.

Perceptual Robotics enables more frequent and automated inspections, reducing the risk of failure and delivering up to a 30% reduction in overall maintenance costs and a 50% reduction in inspection costs. It also speeds up decision-making and improves safety by limiting the need for high-risk manual inspections. The platform further supports predictive maintenance, allowing operators to address issues before they develop into critical failures.

The company’s technology helps extend the lifespan of wind turbines and reduce energy production costs, improving the overall performance of energy infrastructure at a time when the energy transition demands more efficient and resilient systems.

Kostas Karachalios, CEO & Co-Founder, Perceptual Robotics, said:  “This new funding will enable us to scale our operations and further strengthen support for our customers, as we become the #1 solution for wind farm owners and service providers taking control of their inspections with their own teams. We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to be building it with partners who share our vision for a more efficient, sustainable energy sector. ”

Dr. Evangelos Kosmidis, CEO & General Partner at Loggerhead Ventures, said:
“The energy transition is not just about generating clean energy – it’s also about ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of the infrastructure that supports it. Perceptual Robotics addresses a critical, yet often overlooked challenge in wind energy by using technology that turns data into actionable decisions. We invested in a team that combines deep technical expertise with a clear understanding of the market and the ability to turn innovation into measurable impact.”

Matt Jellicoe, Co-Founder & Investment Director at One Planet Capital, said: “PR has developed significantly over the last 12 months, showing strong customer pipeline conversion and high levels of industry interest as operators appreciate how much they can bring down inspection costs. Consequently, we were very positive about supporting the business at this stage of its development.”
